ARLES

 

A bend in the great River Rhône at Arles. This is the first of the many waterways that collectively outline my walk.

Un coude du grand fleuve Rhône à Arles. C'est la première des nombreuses voies navigables qui décrivent collectivement ma randonnée.

Arles is an ancient city that can trace it origins back over two thousand years. Some archeological and architectural works from the period of Roman occupation are still clearly visible.

Arles est une ville ancienne dont les origines remontent à plus de deux mille ans. Certaines œuvres archéologiques et architecturales de la période d'occupation romaine sont encore bien visibles.

In 2022, from mid-September to early October I journeyed from Marseille to Toulouse. In a solo hike beginning in the ancient Roman city of Arles, I followed the Canal de Philippe Lamour, the Petit-Rh ô ne river, the Canal Du Rh ô ne à Sete and then the Canal du Midi to its source north of Toulouse. There were a couple of short train journeys, a few small bus trips and even a short boat ride, but most of the journey was made on foot. This was, in large part, a hiking trip.
