The Canals - Les Canaux 2022
In 2022, from mid-September to early October I journeyed from Marseille to Toulouse. In a solo hike beginning in the ancient Roman city of Arles, I followed the Canal de Philippe Lamour, the Petit-Rhône river, the Canal Du Rhône à Sete and then the Canal du Midi to its source north of Toulouse.
There were a couple of short train journeys, a few small bus trips and even a short boat ride, but most of the journey was made on foot. This was, in large part, a hiking trip. In the following pages you will read about why I made this particular journey, where I went, what I saw and what I ate. I hope you will gain a sense of how much I appreciated my time in France and how close I felt to the French people and this picturesque part of their beautiful country.
En 2022, de mi-septembre à début octobre j'ai voyagé de Marseille à Toulouse. Dans une randonnée en solo commençant dans l'ancienne ville romaine d'Arles, j'ai suivi le Canal de Philippe Lamour, le Petit-Rhône, le Canal Du Rhône à Sète puis le Canal du Midi jusqu'à sa source au nord de Toulouse.
Il y a eu quelques courts trajets en train, quelques petits voyages en bus et même une promenade courte en bateau, mais la majeure partie du trajet s'est déroulée à pied. C'était en grande partie une randonnée. Dans les pages suivantes, vous découvrirez pourquoi j'ai fait ce voyage particulier, où je suis allé, ce que j'ai vu et ce que j'ai mangé. J'espère que vous comprendrez à quel point j'ai apprécié mon séjour en France et à quel point je me sentais proche des Français et de cette partie pittoresque de leur beau pays.
