Les Canaux 2022

In 2022, from mid-September to early October I journeyed from Marseille to Toulouse. In a solo hike beginning in the ancient Roman city of Arles, I followed the Canal de Philippe Lamour, the Petit-Rh ô ne river, the Canal Du Rh ô ne à Sete and then the Canal du Midi to its source north of Toulouse. There were a couple of short train journeys, a few small bus trips and even a short boat ride, but most of the journey was made on foot. This was, in large part, a hiking trip. In the following pages you will read about why I made this particular journey, where I went, what I saw and what I ate. I hope you will gain a sense of how much I appreciated my time in France and how close I felt to the French people and this picturesque part of their beautiful country.
